    It shouldn't matter...

In watching the news tonight the story of Mt. Medows caught my attention, actually it was not the story it's self, it was a question posed after the feature regarding Mitt Romney. The fact that he is LDS should not matter in the race for President regarding history that happened over 100 years ago that he had nothing to do with . He has proven himself as a good leader as far as Utah goes. He has proven that he understands that politics and church each have thier seperate places. If his fellow presidential hopefuls choose to make an issue of the history of his chosen religion, in my opinion they are obtuse and grasping for straws. There are far more important issues that they should be focusing on, this would be a trivial issue...

People need to have their own minds and be open minded in something as important as electing a suitable president to run our county...

    Thank you for your time...

    Sincerely,

    Lisa Simon

I'm not familiar with Mitt Romney enough to comment on his specific ability to keep church and state separate, but I have to say that I do not believe Mormons in general are capable of objectively handling business or politics.  Utah and Idaho are full of examples where Mormon politicians and business owners are highly influenced by their Mormon beliefs and loyalties.  Mormons are very exclusionary of non-mormons, at least from my experience.   I grew up in a town that was 95% Mormon.  I have many Mormon friends, who include all of my former teachers and many former colleagues and supervisors.  On a personal level they are like "everyone else" in many ways.  But I have witnessed many examples of Mormons hiring other Mormons.....basing policy decision on their beliefts.  Mitt Romney has been smart up to this point not be obvious about what he believes, but  I would never vote for, or wish for a Mormon President based on what I've seen.
