Thursday night/Friday morning you may have noticed that unusually large moon. Rising over the Wasatch mountains it was noticeable, in fact, the moon WAS indeed 30% brighter and 14% larger than when it is "smallest". How does that happen? Well the moon's orbit around the Earth is NOT circular but elliptical. Therefore it was closer to the Earth than usual when it reached full moon this past Thursday night.
