I started working as a freelance reporter at ABC 4 News 7 years ago. I also teach journalism at Brigham Young University. I wanted to keep in touch with the profession and convinced the folks at ABC 4 to let me become part of their news staff one day a week. I would like to work more days, but I have a heavy class load and other responsibilities at the university that keep me busy. I will apply for continuing status this year and if the review committee likes what I have done I will receive tenure at BYU.
I have a deep love for good journalism and I love teaching what I have learned to my students. I really enjoy working at ABC 4 because on a daily basis they do quality journalism. The objective of the journalist is to persue the truth and report it in a frame work that is productive to society. That's what I get to do every Tuesday at ABC 4 news.
I will try to use this blog to pass along interesting things that happen to me on the job and insights and opinions that I don't include in my news reports.
Hope I can be of service as we all seek to understand the role of journalism in our society.
