  • What Matters to Marti - Syttende Mai

Today is Syttende Mai,the 17th of May and it's Norwegian Independance Day.  It is a holiday that we can compare to our 4th of July or St. Patrick's Day. But it is a holiday that is near and dear to my heart because of my Norwegian background.

Most of you know me from hosting Good Things Utah and my nightly weathercasts.  But for a number of summers while I was in high school and college, I worked at a Norwegian Language Camp for kids as a camp counselor and teacher.  I also had the chance to go to school in Norway when I was 16 and have visited my Norwegian relatives who still live on the family farm on the Hardanger Fjord in Norway.  It is a part of my hertiage that I am really proud of and I love learning everything I can when it comes to Norway, the people, the culture, the cooking and the traditions.

So, Happy Syttende Mai to all of you.

  • What Matters to Marti - Blogging 101

After 20 years in broadcasting, this is my first blog of my career and another new adventure! I hope to hear back from you from time to time, especially when it comes to topics of the day that we can discuss during our table talk on Good Things Utah.

What a glorious day it is!   We really have been on a roll of great temperatures and beautiful skies.  But today as I was driving back to work for my night time weathercasts, I was thinking "what happened to spring?".  Temperatures have been as much as 20 degrees above normal. My dear friend Joy Bossi from Joy in the Garden on Good Things Utah said last week that we are about a month and a half ahead when it comes to lilacs and snowballs and other plants.  But, I was just looking at all of the maps and models for my forecast for tonight and there is a change in the air.  By early next week we will see cooler temperatures and maybe, just maybe feel like spring again.

Well, I had better figure out the forecast, make some maps and throw some makeup on before the show.  I hope to see you at 5, 5:30, 10pm and also each day for Good Things Utah at 10am.

Hope all your days are full of sunshine and happiness....!!!!!
