Yesterday the Jazz had five shooting guards, and soon they will have just three. Derek Fisher left the team today in a strange turn of events. Fish left Utah to move his family closer to the specific medical care his young daughter needs. It was an interesting move for Fisher, who will probably lose more than $15 million in the transaction. But it shows the kind of classy guy Fisher has been his entire career.
The Jazz chose to let Fish out of his contract, which clears up their glut of 2-guards a little bit. Utah still has C.J. Miles, Ronnie Brewer, Morris Almond, and Gordan Giricek all on the roster. Gira is a talented guy, but his run-ins with Coach Sloan have taken their toll. Expect Gordo to be a throw-in in the first Utah trade of the summer.
There is talk that Utah will go after yet-another shooting guard in free agency, Morris Peterson of the Raptors. I say, leave it alone. You already have your shooting guard of the future. His name is C.J. Brewer. He's a combination of the best traits of Miles and Brewer. You start Miles, after all the Jazz were 12-1 this season in games C.J. started. You play Ronnie Brewer opposite the other teams' scorer, since he's the defensive specialist. Both guys get 24 minutes a game, while Morris Almond bides his time in Orem(he's a rookie, Sloan won't play him anyways).
