Weekly Super Bowl Pick: Patriots 34, Bears 14
What an awful week. The lock missed. My picks missed. I knew it was going to be tough, but that was just sad. I will make up for it with a 2-for-2 week in the title games.
New England(12-4) at Indianapolis(12-4)
Does this game feel like the 2003 ALCS to anyone else? The two teams that seem to meet in the playoffs every year. And this seems like the year the squad that loses every year might actually beat their demons(Red Sox/Colts). But in the end, the powerhouse dynasty(Yankees/Patriots) imposes their will and takes the victory. Reche Caldwell = Aaron Boone. Both teams had team-of-destiny moments in their wins last week. The Colts won their second straight game in un-Colt like fashion: A studly defense and running game making up for a subpar Peyton Manning. The Pats getting the ball back, after Tom Brady threw an interception on fourth down late in the fourth quarter, when Troy Brown stripped the DB. That was a team-of-destiny play if I've ever seen one. Its my take-it-to-Wendover-lock-of-the-week: Pats(+3) 35, Colts 31
New Orleans(11-5) at Chicago(13-3)
Say what you want about Rex Grossman and his random play, the Bears don't let it bother them, they just keep on winning games. Can they hold serve at home against a talented but flawed Saints team? The thing to watch will be the New Orleans running game. Shaun Alexander had a big game against the Bears "D" last week, and Deuce McAllister could go off this week. I think Reggie Bush will have a quiet game(at least running the ball), because he relies too much on his speed, always bouncing it outside, which plays right into the Bears' strength. The Chicago secondary is banged up and will give up some points, but the Bears will do just enough to advance to their first Super Bowl since 1986. Bears 35, Saints 26
