Spiral Notes

By Jeremy Brunner

Last week: 9-7(56%)

Season total: 122-70(64%)

Against the Spread: 6-10(38%)

Season ATS: 99-86-4(54%)

Lock-of-the-week: 10-5(67%)

Weekly Super Bowl Pick: Chargers 34, Bears 27

Another lackluster week, with some more sloppy math. But never mind all that noise. Reggie Bush finally looked like the mega-star of the future. The Giants looked like they're ready for golf-time. And the Loins look like they're lining things up to get Brady Quinn.

Cleveland(4-8) at Pittsburgh(5-7)

The Thursday action continues on the NFL Network, or reason #55,126 the NFL is run by geniuses. Wish I'd thought of that idea. Steelers 33, Browns 24

Oakland(2-10) at Cincinnati(7-5)

Cincy is one team that should be able to score on the Raiders suddenly stout defense. And Oakland is trying to get that coveted #1 pick anyways. Bengals 36, Raiders 21

Baltimore(9-3) at Kansas City(7-5)

What a game. And no, I am not abandoning the Chefs as my surprise SB team now that they choked as my lock of the week. Chefs 30, Ravens 27(OT)

Atlanta(6-6) at Tampa Bay(3-9)

How about those Falcons? Mike Vick is tough to figure out. But they are still in the middle of the hunt in the pathetic NFC. They really need to win the winnable games. Like this one. Falcons 24, Buccs 18(OT)

NY Giants(6-6) at Carlina(6-6)

Which team is struggling more right now? That would have to be the Giants. Both teams are having issues, but the Giants are naming names. Panthers 37, Giants 31

Tennessee(5-7) at Houston(4-8)

Its official: Vince Young is a stud. He seems like the kind of guy that will never have fantastic stats, but always plays for a winner. And winners beat the Texans. Upset Special: Titans 35, Texans 32

Green Bay(4-8) at San Francisco(5-7)

The only thing left for me to watch in the Packers season is whether or not Brett Fav-ruh will catch or pass Dan Marino on the all-time TD passes list. By the way, Alex Smith is 407 TD's away from the record. **SPOILER ALERT** Alex won't break the record. Ever. Niners 24, Pack 19

Denver(7-5) at San Diego(10-2)

LaDanian Tomlinson is on his way to the M.V.P. The Chargers are the SB favorite of the moment. Phillip Rivers is the man, well LT is the man, but Rivers isn't bad. And that defense gets to feast on a rookie this week. A rookie that made one of the worst throws in NFL history last week. Chargers 23, Broncos 14

Minnesota(5-7) at Detroit(2-10)

The Lions are the other team in the Brady Quinn sweepstakes. Should they bomb the rest of the way, or just win some games and pick up John Beck in the later rounds? Loins 19, Vikes 18

New England(9-3) at Miami(5-7)

Can the Phins continue their magic against a decent team? Well, no. Tom Brady would be the MVP fave if not for LT. Pats 25, Phish 15

Philadelphia(6-6) at Washington(4-8)

With no Don McNabb, somebody forgot to tell the Eagles to mail it in. And they should win again in Washington. Chris Cooley is their best player, and its never a good thing when a tight end is your best player. Eagles 34, Washington 27

Indianapolis(10-2) at Jacksonville(7-5)

Bryon Leftwich is out, and David Gerrard is in for the Jags. For good. The Colts may be the shakiest 10-and-2 team in NFL history. Colts 31, Jags 28

Seattle(8-4) at Arizona(3-9)

Who knows how the Seahawks still have such a handsome record, even though Hasselbeck and Alexander were both injured. And their patsy-filled schedule continues with the Cards. Hawks 25, Cards 17

Buffalo(5-7) at NY Jets(7-5)

The Jets defense is on a roll, they haven't allowed 20+ points since week 8. The hit-and-miss Bills offense will be a miss on Sunday. Its my take-it-to-Wendover-lock-of-the-week: Jets(-4)13, Bills 0

New Orleans(8-4) at Dallas(8-4)

Am I the only one who isn't quite sold on the Cowboys yet? I know, I know, it could be my years and years of hating Dallas. Or it could be a rookie(basically) QB and Parcells and T.O. . That's like mixing oil and water and battery acid. Cowboys 20, Saints 13

Chicago(10-2) at St. Louis(5-7)

Now the Bears are back in my good graces and back as my NFC pick. At least for this week. Rex Grossman and his 1.3 passer rating aren't scaring anybody. The Bears might just go into that classic Tecmo Bowl strategy of punting on the first play of every possession. Bears 28, Rams 25
