Spiral Notes

By Jeremy Brunner

Last Week: 9-7(56%)

Season total:99-61(62%)

Against the Spread: 5-10-1(33%)

Season ATS: 80-74-4(52%)

Lock-of-the-week: 9-5(64%)

Weekly Super Bowl Prediction: Ravens 21, Bears 17

I apologize for my lateness. I assure you that my picks were in prior to the Turkey-Day games, but were left unpublished due to a family emergency. If you don't like it, I don't care. Yes, I did go 3-for-3 in the early games, but they were easy picks, except for the Chefs and Broncos. And anyone who reads this column knows I've had an unreasonable crush on KC all year long.

Miami(4-6) at Detroit(2-8)

Dana's red-hot Phish can't lose to Jon Kitna. Can they?

Phins 39, Loins 27

Tampa Bay(3-7) at Dallas(6-4)

All hail Tony Romo. Where did this guy come from? And why has he been on the bench for four years?

Cowboys 32, Buccs 21

Denver(7-3) at Kansas City(6-4)

I'm sticking with the Chefs, my pre-season surprise Super Bowl pick. L.J. is good enough, and Trent Green is back. Still waiting to determine if that is a good thing.

Chefs 32, Broncs 24

New Orleans(6-4) at Atlanta(5-5)

The Falcons are fading faster than me after Thanksgiving dinner. But they'll give their fans one more hope-inducing win first. Falcons 24, Saints 22

Cincinnati(5-5) at Cleveland(3-7)

Ocho Cinco can't have three fantastic games in a row, can he? Bengals 8, Browns 7

Arizona(2-8) at Minnesota(4-6)

The Vikes can't blow anybody away, even the Cards. Speaking of the Cards and their rookie quarterback Matt Leinhart, wasn't he supposed to be good. Vikes 23, Cards 17

Carolina(6-4) at Washington(3-7)

A definite trap game for the Panthers. Washington is going with a new quarterback, which probably means a ton of blitzing for Carolina. If Jason Campbell has a nice debut, I smell upset. But really, Panthers 31, Washington 24

Oakland(2-8) at San Diego(8-2)

The Chargers are the hottest team in the NFL, or should I say, LT is the hottest player in the league. While the Raiders have struggled, they have been as competitive as anybody over the past month. Lets see how they manage against a tough team. Bolts 17, Raiders 5

Chicago(9-1) at New England(7-3)

The game of the week. A mismatch at QB for the Pats. A mismatch at everywhere else for the Bears. Doesn't matter, Brady is just that good, and Rex is still that shaky. Pats 25, Bears 21

Jacksonville(6-4) at Buffalo(4-6)

Don't look now, but the Bills are almost in the playoff hunt. The Jags have assumed their usual place among the wild-card contenders. Upset special #1: Bills 21, Jags 19

San Francisco(5-5) at St. Louis(4-6)

What a tough game to predict. Alex Smith and the Niners a playoff team? Couldn't be. How about Marc Bulger and the wildly inconsistent Rams? Shouldn't be. Alex leads SanFran to the upset? Wouldn't be. Rams 37, Niners 32

Houston(3-7) at NY Jets(5-5)

The biggest mismatch of the week. The Jets offense is itching to get back out there against a normal NFL defense, after getting shut out by the Bears last week. Its my take-it-to-Wendover-lock-of-the-week: Jets(-5) 24, Texans 3

Pittsburgh(4-6) at Baltimore(8-2)

This game is nearly impossible to pick. The Steelers are red hot, while the Ravens have one of the best records in the entire league. When is doubt, just go with the home team. Ravens 31, Steelers 18

NY Giants(6-4) at Tennessee(3-7)

Vince Young has turned the Titans into a spunky bunch who can beat anybody, or lay an egg on any given Sunday. The Giants are falling apart at the seams, Eli Manning has all the confidence of Kevin Federline after Brittney dumped him by text-message. Upset Special #2: Titans 20, Giants 13

Philadelphia(5-5) at Indianapolis(9-1)

When NBC picked this game, I don't think they sensed the Eagles impending implosion. Nonetheless, the Eagles seem too spunky just to write off. Yet. Colts 34, Eagles 22

Green Bay(4-6) at Seattle(6-4)

Too bad the Pack couldn't have caught the Hawks in the middle of the Seneca Wallace era. It looks like Favre will rush back to keep his streak alive. And with Mike Holmgren's history of owning Brett in big-time games, that may not be a good thing. Hawks 40, Pack 27
