On the Greene
by Dana Greene
Of all the off-season moves the Jazz have made...from re-signing Matt Harpring and Jarron Collins, to trading for Derek Fisher, to drafting Ronnie Brewer, Dee Brown and Paul Millsap (all great moves by the way), the best thing Jazz officials did was to leave Carlos Boozer alone.
Harpring will bring toughness, Collins will bring depth, Fisher will bring clutch outside shooting, and Brewer will bring athleticism. But if Kevin O'Connor would have pulled the trigger on a Boozer trade, this season would have brought a certain emptiness.
We all deserve to see what Boozer can do with this team for a full season. We've been waiting for two years now, but this appears to finally be the season Boozer will be healthy, ready and able to lift the Jazz to the next level.
We all heard plenty of rumors. Boozer for Magliore...Boozer for Szczerbiak...Boozer for Battier...it was getting comical. I even heard Boozer was going to be traded for Alfonso Soriano.
But either O'Connor was turned down by all of Boozer's suitors, or he turned them down. Regardless, the Jazz are better off. We got a taste of how good Boozer can be at the end of last season, and it would have been an absolute shame if Jazz fans were deprived of seeing the corp of this team (Boozer, Kirilenko, Okur and Williams) for at least one full season.
That is, unless Boozer tears up his....I won't even finish that thought.
